Closer look at the Samsung NC210 netbook

The Samsung NC210 is one of the latest mini-laptops from Samsung. It features a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom N550 dual core processor, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and has a 48Whr cell battery. Samsung quietly unveiled the netbook at CES in January, and now the folks at Netbook News.it have managed to get their hands on a Samsung NC210 and they’ve posted an unboxing and first look video which you can find after the break.

The laptop has a 10 inch matte display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, 1GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. It sells for about 349 Euros in Italy. That’s about $479 US, but Samsung hasn’t announced any US pricing or availability for this netbook yet.

The Samsung NC210 has a chiclet-style keyboard and a very large touchpad for a 10 inch netbook.

Netbook News.it a seems very impressed with the design of the laptop, which has a silver and black paint job and some chromed highlights around the power button and other areas. The price is also pretty good for a dual core netbook in Italy.

Apple cofounded effort to design and build $2 billion New Stanford

This month, Apple joined eBay, HP, Intel, Intuit and Oracle in an "unprecedented" joint philanthropic effort to help Stanford Medical Center build a new $2 billion hospital, designed to use the latest technology available in ways mirroring the innovation of Silicon Valley tech companies.

Members of the new Stanford Hospital Corporate Partners Program expect to contribute $150 million over the next decade and plan to raise an additional $400 million in private donation to construct the new project.

More than just contributing resources, the partners will work with New Stanford Hospital planners to develop innovative new approaches to providing patient access, information, education and navigation, a program that "has the ability to change the face of health care," according to Stanford Hospital president and chief executive Amir Dan Rubin.

The project balances new technical innovations with the goal of creating a healing environment "responsive to the emotional, social and psychological needs of patients, families, visitors, medical professionals and staff," said a report by the hospital.

The new complex will supply 600 beds, new intensive care and emergency services, state of the art imaging systems, and a garden floor supplying dining, conference and educational space.

The domain name or IP address

Other examples of scheme names include https:, gopher:, wais:, ftp:. URLs with https as a scheme (such as https://example.com/) require that requests and responses will be made over a secure connection to the website. Some schemes that require authentication allow a username, and perhaps a password too, to be embedded in the URL, for example ftp://asmith@ftp.example.org. Passwords embedded in this way are not conducive to secure working, but the full possible syntax is
scheme://username:password@domain:port/path?query_string#fragment_id

    * The domain name or IP address gives the destination location for the URL. The domain google.com, or its IP address 72.14.207.99, is the address of Google's website.
    * The domain name portion of a URL is not case sensitive since DNS ignores case: http://en.example.org/ and HTTP://EN.EXAMPLE.ORG/ both open the same page.

website hosting

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation or Housing as it is commonly called in Latin America or France.

The scope of hosting services varies widely. The most basic is web page and small-scale file hosting, where files can be uploaded via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or a Web interface. The files are usually delivered to the Web "as is" or with little processing. Many Internet service providers (ISPs) offer this service free to their subscribers. People can also obtain Web page hosting from other, alternative service providers. Personal web site hosting is typically free, advertisement-sponsored, or inexpensive. Business web site hosting often has a higher expense.

Single page hosting is generally sufficient only for personal web pages. A complex site calls for a more comprehensive package that provides database support and application development platforms (e.g. PHP, Java, Ruby on Rails, ColdFusion, and ASP.NET). These facilities allow the customers to write or install scripts for applications like forums and content management. For e-commerce, SSL is also highly recommended.

The host may also provide an interface or control panel for managing the Web server and installing scripts as well as other services like e-mail. Some hosts specialize in certain software or services (e.g. e-commerce). They are commonly used by larger companies to outsource network infrastructure to a hosting company.
